Engagement session in Colliers Wood, Merton Abbey Mills

Cathryn and I met during our postgraduate studies so I’ve known her for a while and was really happy when she asked me to photograph her wedding this year. She and her fiance David have been together for eight years now, so this gave me the idea of approaching their engagement session from a slightly different perspective; the ‘Beloved’ method.

This is a type of couple/family photography that favours capturing candid interactions, with simple ‘tasks’ meant as guidance from the photographer. It can evoke strong emotions, shared memories and feelings that couples who have been together a long time can draw upon.

Of course Cathryn and David were excited and happy about their upcoming wedding, so it wasn’t too difficult to get them in a suitable mood – and the delicious waffles also helped! We took a stroll around Merton Abbey Mills and the River Wandle which is lovely in spring with blossoms and green everywhere.
