  • “She has a talent to pick up on what moments that are most important, even where we wouldn’t have realised it ourselves! She has an ability to give gentle and straight-forward guidance to get the right shots, without making it feel forced or posed, all whilst working hard to make the most of time without feeling rushed. We were so relaxed in her presence and it really shows in the photos!”

I live and work in Banbury. That means when you book me for your local wedding, you’re getting your photographer at their most relaxed and well-rested, with no early-morning motorway miles to add stress before your day has even begun.

I know the light in the Cherwell Valley. I know the vibe of the ironstone that makes Banbury’s surrounding villages and churches so distinctively warm and golden. Banbury sits at the heart of a beautiful stretch of north Oxfordshire that doesn’t always get the same attention as the Cotswolds villages to the south – but for couples who want real character, medieval history, and genuinely dramatic countryside without the tourist crowds, this is a very special corner of England to get married in.

Banbury wedding venues I know and love to photograph

Primrose Hill Farm, Arlescote — A stunning contemporary barn venue sitting right on the Oxfordshire/Warwickshire border, barely fifteen minutes from Banbury. Three converted hay barns with floor-to-ceiling glass walls, panoramic countryside views, a sun-drenched terrace, orchards and a trout pool make it one of the most photogenic venues in the area.

Broughton Castle — One of the most extraordinary private buildings in England, and barely ten minutes from Banbury town centre. The ancestral home of the Fiennes family, built in the 1300s and extended in the 1550s from local Hornton ironstone, surrounded by a medieval moat and gardens that are simply jaw-dropping in June. I had the privilege of personally obtaining permission from the Lord Saye and Sele himself to access the gardens on a Saturday, outside of normal opening hours, for a couple’s portraits.

Hadsham Farm — A festival-style countryside wedding venue just outside Banbury, with tipis, bell tents and a wonderfully laid-back atmosphere. Brilliant for couples who want a relaxed day that doesn’t feel like a hotel function room.

Other Banbury-area venues I’ve covered or would be delighted to photograph at include Wroxton House Hotel, Sulgrave Manor, The Whately Hall Hotel, St Mary’s Church in Adderbury, St Peter’s Church in Hanwell, St Peter’s Church in Duns Tew, and many more beautiful village churches across north Oxfordshire.

Ant and Steve married at Bodicote House surrounded by just their six children, before heading to Broughton Castle for portraits. It was an LGBTQ+ micro wedding, an intimate family occasion, and one of the most purely joyful days I’ve photographed. The castle’s 14th-century stone, the summer gardens, and the genuine love in the room made it extraordinary.

This wedding blended a Grade I listed medieval church ceremony at St Etheldreda’s in Horley with a festival-style celebration at Hadsham Farm — complete with surprise entertainment, a boat ride at sunset, and candid moments that tell the whole story of a joyful, love-filled day. This is what I mean by documentary wedding photography: the real thing, not a recreation of it.

About Barbara

I’ve been photographing weddings, families and portraits for 13 years. Although originally I got a degree in Japanese, and then a Masters in Web Design (I still freelance as a designer too), life had other plans and drew me to photography!

My work has been exhibited at the UK Houses of Parliament and in Paris, featured in Photo VOGUE and Digital Photographer magazine, and I’ve worked with global clients including PlayStation and Fujifilm.

I have a 5.0 rating on Google across all my wedding reviews. I carry full public liability and professional indemnity insurance (via Hiscox), backup equipment, and shoot on dual memory cards so your images are always safe.

Frequently Asked Questions

A second photographer can be useful for several reasons, but isn’t essential. It really depends on how big your wedding is, and how complicated the logistics are. When a wedding is large enough to have loads going on, and you want to ensure coverage in two locations, or from different angles of important moments, I can certainly book a second photographer, whose images will still be edited by me to ensure consistency across your album. We can have a chat and see if you might want this option early on!

Absolutely! I’m an ally and the more people I can witness celebrating their love, in whatever shape or form, the more I love my job, so I’m here for it! The way I shoot doesn’t depend on gender in any way – documentary is whatever happens on the day, and for your couple portraits I work with your vibe and how you interact with each other regardless of gender. I also try to avoid gendered or otherwise heteronormative language on my website and in my labelling of workflow and such; however do please call me out if I miss something, I’m always learning as much as my heart is in the right place.

ABSOLUTELY. I’m neurodivergent myself, I get it. Please don’t hesitate to ask for any accommodations such as a certain form of communication, or other adjustments I can make to help you feel more comfortable. You don’t need to disclose your diagnosis or anything, unless you want to; all I ask is that you still provide me with the details I ask for in the lead up to your big day in whatever format works for you, so that I can make sure I get the best possible photos for you 🙂

I have full public liability and professional indemnity insurance through PolicyBee/Hiscox (policy no. 14791356). I carry backup equipment with me so that if something breaks or malfunctions, I can continue working with minimal interruption to coverage. I shoot on dual memory cards, too, so if one becomes corrupted I have a full backup on the other card by default so your images aren’t lost.
