Candid, natural documentary wedding photography in the Cotswolds

S+C were quite clear from the start that they wanted documentary wedding photography without lots of posing or contrived setups, and lots of candids of their guests interacting. That’s exactly what I love doing so of course I knew this was going to be a great day! The wedding was always going to be a super relaxed affair – they were really chilled about everything, including having just their closest family and friends attend so it could be minimum pressure to stick to schedules.

We started the day at the couple’s home where they both got ready, and I captured lots of little details, from the bespoke cufflinks with a map of each of their hometowns on them right down to the silver sixpence in the bride’s shoe.

The ceremony was at Bodicote House (Banbury registry office) with confetti and champagne in the garden afterwards.

We then moved on to the Rollright Stones, near Chipping Norton, to capture some relaxed, natural couple photos. There was a circle of loudly chanting people in the middle of the stones themselves, so we stuck to the sidelines and made the most of the beautiful Cotswolds scenery instead. It only took us about 15 minutes to get these unposed wedding photos – just with simple prompts. This is my favourite part of the day, because I get to combine my love of weddings and portraits to create these special photos for my couples!

The wedding reception, meal and cake cutting were at the Wild Rabbit restaurant in Kingham, a gorgeous traditional Cotswolds venue with honey coloured stone walls, charming wisteria, exposed wooden beams and warm and cosy decor. It has such character that it doesn’t need much additional decoration even for a wedding. I grabbed details of the lovely reception room, including the special port the couple had ordered in for the occasion, and mostly hovered to grab guests having drinks before they headed in for the meal.
