L & B had originally been looking for a Cotswolds micro wedding photographer to capture their intimate wedding with just 11 family members in Broadway, but in the end decided to get married in Stratford upon Avon instead, allowing us the backdrop of this bustling historic town full of a mix of old and new buildings for their wedding photos!
Luckily it was also cherry blossom season, which in the Cotswolds and Warwickshire is around mid-to-late March, so we could capture not only wedding couple photos with architecture but also some with the gorgeous blossoms surrounding them.
The Henley Room is a small register office right next to Shakespeare’s house on the high street, and confetti is therefore not allowed after the ceremony. However at this micro wedding, the couple had the idea to use a bubble machine instead, held up by a guest, to get those lovely exit photos anyway!
In terms of lighting, the Henley Room is dark and has lots of spotlights in the low ceiling, which can make it difficult to achieve nice photos without flash due to harsh shadows on your face from above – this is just a heads up if you’re considering getting married there. When I made them aware of this, the couple said they would prefer that I use flash as it didn’t bother them and they wanted the best photos possible, so that made my job easier, despite the registrars giving me slight looks… At the end of the day I’m there for the couple and it is their ceremony to tailor as they wish!
We then moved on to do a fun photo walk of around 45 minutes to get photos in various spots before the couple rejoined their family for a meal at the private room at Loxley’s Bar on Sheep Street, and then setting off on a spa retreat together!
